Pashmina Roshan: “I want to create work that I’m proud of”
Pashmina Roshan, the first member of the Roshan family to step into Bollywood since her cousin Hrithik’s iconic debut in “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai”, is determined to carve out her own path while honoring her family’s illustrious legacy. Daughter of composer Rajesh Roshan and cousin to Hrithik, Pashmina acknowledges the weight of expectations as she prepares for her first film, “Ishq Vishk Rebound”.
Pashmina says, “I come from a family of great artistes. The audience cherishes everything my father, my uncle and my cousin have done. Their art is immortal and I hope one day I will be able to match up to that. I don’t see it as pressure as much as a dream to work towards.”
For Pashmina, shaping her career means blending personal aspirations with family legacy. “Hrithik stands for his own values while carrying forward the family legacy. I hope I’m able to do the same. I want to create work that I am proud of. I am nervous. It’s nervousness filled with happiness though”, she said.
In an earlier interview producer Ramesh Turani had revealed that he learnt that Pashmina was a star kid only when the company started drawing up her contracts. Regarding questions about how she landed this role, Pashmina clarifies, “They are all so busy doing their own work. My family is of course invested, but you don’t sit and tell them of every audition you do, or every person you meet. This is one of the many auditions that I gave. Also, you don’t enter a room or meeting and say, ‘Hi, I’m Pashmina Roshan, I am Rajesh Roshan’s daughter. No one does that. Adding to that, I’m not known in the movie circle. I know there is a lot of privilege, but it is like a ladder, ultimately, a person has to climb by themselves.”
In essence, Pashmina Roshan looks forward to establishing herself while respecting her family’s cinematic heritage, aiming to leave her mark in Bollywood on her own merit.
