Punjab Government Alters School Timings Amidst Concerns of Harsh Winter Conditions

Chandigarh, December 31, 2023

In response to the continuous spell of severe cold and dense fog gripping the state, the Education Department of Punjab has decided to modify school timings, prioritizing the safety of students and teachers. The announcement was made today through an order issued by the Education Department, stating that all government-aided and private schools in the state will open at 10:00 am and conclude at 3:00 pm from January 1st to January 14th.

While there were expectations among students, parents, and teachers for an extension of winter vacations, similar to the decision taken by the Punjab government in the previous year, such measures have not been implemented this time. The move aims to address the escalating concerns of students, their parents, and educators, who have been grappling with the challenges of the intense cold.

Over the past few days, the state has been experiencing severe cold and fog, prompting the government to adjust school timings to alleviate the difficulties posed by adverse weather conditions. The decision reflects the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the education community.

Despite hopes for an increase in holidays, as witnessed in the previous year, the current decision emphasizes the need to strike a balance between providing sufficient break time and maintaining the academic schedule. The alteration in school timings is a proactive step to minimize challenges arising from unfavorable weather conditions.

This move is expected to provide relief to students, parents, and teachers who have been expressing concerns about safety amid the harsh winter conditions. As the state prepares to implement the adjusted school timings from the beginning of the new year, the government remains dedicated to fostering a secure and conducive learning environment for all.
